Croatia is a sunny holiday destination and offers visitors many opportunities to discover the deep cultural history and enjoy the natural delights of central Europe. Croatia is embraced by the beauriful coastline of the Adriatic Sea with resorts such as Opatija, Porec and Rovinj, with their clear, warm blue seas and wooded cliff backdrops. Inland the Croatian landscape varies between the Velebit mountains of the north to the flat plains to the east with the Plitvice National Park and its lakes forming a true natural wonder and scenery that is well worth a visit.
Croatia is rich in culture and historical monuments. The town of Porec has a very Roman feel and Rovinj's narrow streets take a more neoclassic feel. Both resorts are perfect for a fun, activity-packed summer holiday. Opatija, former holiday retreat of the Habsburg monarchy in Kvarner bay, boasts fantastic architecture and a relaxing atmosphere. As one would expect from resorts on the Adriatic coast, sea-food dishes are common, with a delicious fish, tomato and garlic stew being a popular choice with locals and visitors alike. Swordfish, sardines and langoustines are particularly popular throughout the region. There are numerous local plum and walnut brandies to be tasted and also a good selection of rich, Croatian red and white wines.
